I did my 3 kitchen stools by diluting the chalk paint with water and spraying the fabric with water it took 2 coats with 24 hours drying in between coats and sanding then i sealed it with clear seal or you can wax it but the fabric ends up feeling leathery just keep that in mind it won't feel like soft fabric anymore. I welcome you to share your opinions regarding waxes and top coats in the comments below.
If you’re using annie sloane chalk paint, choose the wax produced by the same brand for the best results.

Applying wax is a fairly laborious process, in my opinion. Pick up a 500 ml (17 fl oz) tin of wax per 3 to 4 l (0.79 to 1.06 us gal) of chalk paint you’re using for your project. The sanding and waxing soften the paint and give it a slight sheen.
Also because tape doesn’t stick well on rough fabric…. Spray the fabric down with a spray bottle in small sections. It is an arm work out and a half.
Mix the chalk paint with some water and test it on a spot you will not be able to see, like the back of a chair or sofa. Make sure you cover the floor beneath your piece to catch the paint dust. Wax and paint has peeled off, looks very patchy.

I think this method of using chalk paint is suitable for a piece of furniture not used much. If paint finds its way to the wood surface, just wipe it off quickly with a damp towel. Apply annie's clear wax with a wax brush to the painted fabric.
Apply a third coat of paint if needed to cover fabric. I tried the same method with a brown leather sofa. I know there will be some out there who disagree, and i’m ok with that.
